The Akron 8th Graders have been working hard this semester on a project called “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?”. The Colorado Workforce, with the leadership of Ginger Allen and Josh Gibbs, presented this project to these students. Yesterday, students were able to show off their final video projects to representatives from Cory Gardner’s office, the Colorado Department of Education, Fort Morgan Community College, and many more.
For this project, these Akron students were given the chance to explore the Akron Airport and the many opportunities the airport brings to our community and beyond. A big thank you to Randy Hayes and all the employees at Hayes Aviation, and a big thank you to Dan Jensen and all the employees at Redline Aviation. Without these two manufacturing businesses, this opportunity would not have been available for our students. Finally, a big thanks goes out to teacher Kilee Randel for taking on this project and giving our students this opportunity. If you see an 8th Grader, please ask them about their wonderful experience on this project.

On Tuesday, the Akron H.S. Government class made a trip to the Colorado State Capitol and the Ralph L. Carr Justice Center. Thank you Ms. Hocheder for planning and arranging this trip! It was also great to have Senator Jerry Sonnenberg invite our students down to the Senate floor and speak to them about his role in the legislator and what was taking place in the State Senate.
