The Akron Ram junior high teams were in action Thursday evening against Haxtun. The A, B, and D volleyball team lost and the C team split games. The football team won 26-18. Keep up the good work Rams! 🏈🏐🏈🏐

We have added a D team game to our JH volleyball schedule at Haxtun. We will start the added D team game at 3:30 PM. Please consult your player to see when they will be playing.

Picture Day is Coming! School picture day is Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Order forms and information will be going home with students today (August 24th).

We welcomed our elementary students to their first day of school today.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS: The Board of Education of Akron School District R-1 calls for nomination of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial election to be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019. At this election, three directors will be elected for a term of office for four years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered voter and a resident of the Akron School District for at least twelve consecutive months before the election. A person is ineligible to run for school director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child. Nomination petitions may be obtained at the superintendent’s office at 600 Elm Avenue. Completed petitions must be returned to the school district’s Designated Election Official, Kelli McCaffrey, no later than 4:00 p.m. on August 30, 2019.

AKRON SCHOOL DISTRICT SELECTED FOR RURAL EDUCATION GRANT Thanks to local farmers, Akron School District received an @AmericasFarmers Grow Rural Education grant. We are using it to expand educational horizons through STEM education with virtual reality!

Congratulations to Justin Traxler, Jaden Hottinger, and Derrick Poss who played in the 8-man All-State game on Friday night. They were part of the north squad that won the game.

Congratulations to Mr. Ed Lundquist on his retirement from the Akron School District. Mr. Lundquist has served 30 years as educator, the past 6 years have been spent in Akron. Thank you for your service and best wishes in your next adventure.

Congratulations to Mrs. Denise Pickens on her retirement. Mrs. Pickens has given 18 great years to the Akron School District. Thank you for your service. We will miss you but wish you the absolute best in the next chapter of your life.

2019 Booster Club Athletic Awards Banquet A great evening was spent celebrating our student-athletes and coaches. Thank you parents and the Akron Booster Club for your wonderful support! Go Rams!

Yesterday, Mrs. Chapman’s 4th grade class had a writers, cafe . Students ate cookies and drank hot chocolate while they listened to each other share writing they were most proud of.

AN AMAZING CAREER COMES TO A CLOSE The conclusion of the state track meet yesterday marked the end of coach Tom Meyer’s 40 year career as track coach at Akron High School. Coach Meyer has also served 22 years as basketball coach and 22 years as our athletic director. He is a member of the CHSCA Hall of Fame and has been a National Finalist for Track Coach of the Year. He has earned numerous accolades over the course of his career including 8 State Track Championships, 10 State Track Runner-up finishes, and 1 State Basketball Championship. Tom Meyer is a high school coaching legend in Colorado. The true measure of his career has been the positive impact he has made on the lives of the student athletes he has taught and coached over his 40 year career here at Akron. Thank you Coach Meyer!

State Track Day 3 On the final day of the 2019 state track meet (May 18th) the Rams picked up seven medals bringing the total count to eight for the state meet. Jaden Hottinger 2nd Pole Vault, Grayson Pachner 5th Pole Vault, Kate Pachner 5th in the mile & 4th in the 800, and the 4x4 team of Bailee Clarkson, Kate Pachner, Landrie Reese, and Allison Colby finished 6th. Congratulations Rams!
