The Akron FBLA put on a car wash fundraiser on Friday.

The Akron J.H football team played Sedgwick County on Thursday night at Julesburg. The final score was Akron 6 and Sedgwick County 22.

The Akron J.H. volleyball team was in action at Julesburg Thursday night. Results: D team split, C team split, B team lost in two, and A team lost in two.

Mr. Hall and our 6th grade students led the school in singing the Akron Ram fight song this morning.

COMMUNITY PRIDE
Our Akron high school students were out and about in the community Wednesday working to spruce up the town. This is the second year of the community pride program at our school.

Bret Miles, NE BOCES Executive Director, stopped in at the Akron school board work session on Tuesday evening and made a surprise special presentation to Akron’s new elementary principal Kendra Anderson. Miles presented Anderson with a gavel and vase for her leadership on the BOCES superintendent advisory council this past school year.

The yellow ribbons around our trees are in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Thank you to the ladies of Akron Gamma Omega for recognizing this important cause and month of awareness!

School Assembly
Our students enjoyed an assembly that included some amazing displays of strength from Strongman Steve Schmidt. Steve holds Guinness World Records for several of his lifts and displays of strength. More importantly his story told by his wife is one of finding your unique gifts, not being afraid to pursue your gifts, and to always believe in yourself.

The Akron Lady Ram volleyball team had a very good day at the NJC Tournament yesterday in Sterling.

The Lady Ram volleyball team defeated the Holly Lady Wildcats 3-0 on Friday night.

The Akron Ram football team made the trip to Holly on Friday night for their second game of the season. The Rams fell behind early and battled back only to come up short 28-14. The Rams will look to bounce back when they host Fowler at home this Friday, September 13th.

The Akron Ram junior high teams were in action Thursday evening against Haxtun. The A, B, and D volleyball team lost and the C team split games. The football team won 26-18. Keep up the good work Rams! 🏈🏐🏈🏐

We have added a D team game to our JH volleyball schedule at Haxtun. We will start the added D team game at 3:30 PM. Please consult your player to see when they will be playing.

School picture day is Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Order forms and information will be going home with students today (August 24th).

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS:
The Board of Education of Akron School District R-1 calls for nomination of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial election to be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
At this election, three directors will be elected for a term of office for four years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered voter and a resident of the Akron School District for at least twelve consecutive months before the election. A person is ineligible to run for school director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.
Nomination petitions may be obtained at the superintendent’s office at 600 Elm Avenue. Completed petitions must be returned to the school district’s Designated Election Official, Kelli McCaffrey, no later than 4:00 p.m. on August 30, 2019.
