Yesterday, Mrs. Chapman’s 4th grade class had a writers, cafe . Students ate cookies and drank hot chocolate while they listened to each other share writing they were most proud of.


AN AMAZING CAREER COMES TO A CLOSE
The conclusion of the state track meet yesterday marked the end of coach Tom Meyer’s 40 year career as track coach at Akron High School. Coach Meyer has also served 22 years as basketball coach and 22 years as our athletic director. He is a member of the CHSCA Hall of Fame and has been a National Finalist for Track Coach of the Year. He has earned numerous accolades over the course of his career including 8 State Track Championships, 10 State Track Runner-up finishes, and 1 State Basketball Championship. Tom Meyer is a high school coaching legend in Colorado. The true measure of his career has been the positive impact he has made on the lives of the student athletes he has taught and coached over his 40 year career here at Akron. Thank you Coach Meyer!


State Track Day 3
On the final day of the 2019 state track meet (May 18th) the Rams picked up seven medals bringing the total count to eight for the state meet. Jaden Hottinger 2nd Pole Vault, Grayson Pachner 5th Pole Vault, Kate Pachner 5th in the mile & 4th in the 800, and the 4x4 team of Bailee Clarkson, Kate Pachner, Landrie Reese, and Allison Colby finished 6th.

Day 2 (Friday, May 17th) of the Colorado H.S. State Track Meet
The Akron Rams picked up another medalist as Kate Pachner battled her way to a 4th place finish in the 800 meter.


Due to anticipated temperature and moisture we are delaying the start of field day on Wednesday, May, 22. PK-2 grade will start at 11:45 and end at 1:45. 3-5 grade will start at 1:45 and end at 3:30. Thank you for your flexibility concerning this event.

PK - 5 Field Day is being moved to Wednesday, May 22. PK-2 starts at 8:30 am and 3-5 starts at 12:30 pm. This change is due to inclement weather.

State Track Meet
The Akron track team had just one participant on day one of the state meet. Ram freshman Shay Benish finished 7th in pole vault gaining her first state medal. Congratulations Shay!



Wednesday night’s Career Exploration BBQ was well attended! A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE LOCAL VENDORS FOR INVESTING IN OUR YOUTH! Kudos to Akron Chamber of Commerce, Akron School District, Sedgwick County Economic Development, NE Colorado Student to Career Opportunity Initiative for sponsoring this inaugural event! Akron Vet Science students learned how to suture on bananas.



H.S. Academic Awards were held on Tuesday morning in the field house.


Mrs. Reid and Mr. Hill were at the school board work session Tuesday night with some of their 2nd grade students. The 2nd graders in attendance shared the books they created and published this year.


On Tuesday, Ms. Thompson and Kenna Kemp presented the board with creations they made with the school 3-D printer. They also thanked the board for their support of the STEM activities this year.


Congratulations to Ms. Lowry and her 7th-12th grade music students for putting on a great concert tonight.


The Ram baseball season came to an end Friday with a loss to Wray in the first round of districts.

What a great night at the Akron FFA banquet last Thursday! Congratulations to all the outstanding members, best wishes to the seniors, and thank you Mrs. Dreitz for all you do for our students! We are proud of all of you!
