Outstanding Teacher Award Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Weis for being selected as the 2020 Akron Outstanding Teacher. Each year a donation is given from an anonymous donor to recognize a teacher in the Akron School. The hope is to recognize the great work of teachers and the impact they make in students lives on a daily basis. The Akron School District is blessed to have a wonderful team of teachers and staff members who are deserving of recognition. Thank you to the anonymous donors and our parents and community for your wonderful support of our school. We are better together!

Region 3 Wrestling Tournament The Akron Rams advanced two wrestlers to the state tournament next week. Sophomores Xavier Livesay and Gavin Brown both finished as regional runner-ups and will compete at the Pepsi Center starting on Thursday. Senior Cameron Collins battled back to 5th place and just missed advancing to state losing a close challenge match. Senior Caden Zimmerman was impressive this year going out for wrestling for the first time. Good luck at state next week wrestlers and coaches!

The A.H.S. athletic teams were in action on Friday. Wrestlers competed in their first day of regional wrestling at NJC and our basketball teams were on the road at Julesburg playing Sedgwick County. Our basketball teams gave a good effort but dropped both contests against Sedgwick County. The wrestlers will continue in their tournament today with each having hopes of qualifying for the state tournament next week. Go Rams!

Akron students were honored on Thursday to welcome speaker Nathan Harmon from Your Life Speaks. He traveled from Indiana to speak with our K-12th graders. The K-4th graders learned about making good choices, being kind, don’t be selfish, and being a good listener. There were separate assemblies for the 5th & 6th graders and the 7th-12th graders where they learned about “The Five”: 1. Work hard 2. Be transparent 3. Value people 4. Accountability 5. Good choices If you would like to hear more about Mr. Harmon’s message, check him out at Your Life Speaks on Facebook or @your_life_speaks on Instagram.
