The Akron HS boys and girls basketball teams both fell short of gaining wins in the first round of their league tournaments. Congratulations to players and coaches for their efforts this season.


The Akron Junior High Wrestlers were in action on Monday at the LPAA Tournament in Holyoke. The wrestlers did a great job representing the Rams!

The Akron Ram wrestlers performed well today. Xavier Livesay won all three matches today and his final match by pin to place 3rd. Gavin Brown started with a loss then won by fall to place 5th.

Outstanding Teacher Award
Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Weis for being selected as the 2020 Akron Outstanding Teacher. Each year a donation is given from an anonymous donor to recognize a teacher in the Akron School. The hope is to recognize the great work of teachers and the impact they make in students lives on a daily basis. The Akron School District is blessed to have a wonderful team of teachers and staff members who are deserving of recognition.

Go to Wray HS tonight to support our HS Basketball Teams in their final season contest. Games start at 4 with 2 quarters of JVG followed by JVB then VG and VB. Districts start Tuesday with the girls playing in Julesburg at 6 PM and the boys playing in Wray at 7 PM. Go Blue!

The JH LPAA Wrestling tournament has changed dates. It will now be on Monday, February 24th at 2 PM in Holyoke. Go to Holyoke and support our JH Wrestlers.

Region 3 Wrestling Tournament
The Akron Rams advanced two wrestlers to the state tournament next week. Sophomores Xavier Livesay and Gavin Brown both finished as regional runner-ups and will compete at the Pepsi Center starting on Thursday. Senior Cameron Collins battled back to 5th place and just missed advancing to state losing a close challenge match. Senior Caden Zimmerman was impressive this year going out for wrestling for the first time.

The A.H.S. athletic teams were in action on Friday. Wrestlers competed in their first day of regional wrestling at NJC and our basketball teams were on the road at Julesburg playing Sedgwick County. Our basketball teams gave a good effort but dropped both contests against Sedgwick County.
The wrestlers will continue in their tournament today with each having hopes of qualifying for the state tournament next week.

Akron Elementary students came to school on a Friday to participate in a LEGO workshop today. Students worked individually and collaboratively to design and build speed racers and robots. Concepts and skills practiced were around ENERGY, GEARS, RATIOS and TORQUE.

We are excited to announce that Denver Bronco, Dalton Risner will be a guest speaker at the Akron School on March 11th, 2020. The following is a message from Andrew Perry, Otis R-3 teacher and coach, who was instrumental in setting up this opportunity for not only the Akron and Otis schools but also several of our neighboring districts.
It is my privilege to invite you and your school & community to the Akron Field House on Wednesday March, 11 @ 10 a.m. Dalton Risner (Denver Broncos starting linemen) will be our featured guest speaker and would love to positively impact our community. Superintendent /Coach Christensen of Akron also knows and supports Dalton and is generously allowing us all the use of the Akron Field House. Dalton is a 2014 graduate of Wiggins High School and played college football at Kansas State University before being drafted less than a year ago. Dalton breathes positivity and has written a children's book RISE UP, which can be purchased online using the QR code on the flyer attached to this email. He has asked that donations be made to his foundation RisnerUp, which can also be accessed via QR code on the flyer.

The Akron JH STEM class had their Bridge Building Competition. Students were required to learn about bridge structures and design. They created their own bridges and tested how much weight each bridge could hold.
